Researcher biography
Mr Phil Bennet is a proud UQ graduate (majoring in materials engineering with a mechanical minor) and member of UQ Materials performance since 2011. He has led or been involved with a broad range of projects, primarily in the context of forensic investigations. Mr Bennet has experience is investigating of various rail-related failures including thermit welds, flash but welds, rail head defects and axle fatigue failures. He has been involved in diagnosing corrosion of stainless steel in marine and chlorinated environments which have also included microbiological influences. Mr Bennet has extensive experience in a variety of mechanical, wear, accelerated weathering and ultrasonic crack testing. He is capable of carry out standard tests as well as designing novel experimental methodologies critical to answering project-specific questions.
