The Natural Resource Innovation and Characterization Hub (NRICH), a division of CMM, will host a five-day Mineral and Metal Characterization Workshop. The program will feature multiple practical sessions on a range of analytical instruments, delivered by NRICH staff and experienced vendor representatives. Register by 16th June.

The Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis (CMM) is deeply saddened by the passing of our Director, Professor Roger Wepf. Our thoughts are with Roger's family, friends, colleagues, students, and all those whose lives he touched. He will be greatly missed.

The CMM User Forum will be held on 19th May 2026. This forum provides the chance for researchers to network and learn about the breadth of research facilitated at CMM. It is open to past and present clients as well as anyone who has an interest in what CMM does, or can do for you. Register by 14th May.

Technique highlight - X-ray Reflectometry

The Automated Mineralogy User Group will be hosting their annual meeting at UQ from 22-24 June 2026. This will be a three-day, in-person gathering for students, researchers and industry professionals working across automated mineralogy.

SenseAI imaging software has been installed at the Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis (CMM). As a result, the centre will now be able to perform live 4D STEM and 2D STEM experiments on their Hitachi HF5000.

The CMM cryoEM Challenge invites UQ researchers to present cryoEM results acquired using CMM facilities.

A landmark deal has placed Australian vaccine innovation on the world stage and CMM has provided integral expertise and infrastructure to help deliver manufacturing, process development and analytical testing to support the translation of research discovery towards clinical trials.

Researchers at UQ have created the world’s smallest wave tank - a microscopic “ocean” on a chip smaller than a grain of rice, and it's opening doors to major scientific breakthroughs.

In a breakthrough discovery, a team lead by Professor Daniel Watterson and Dr Ariel Isaacs at The University of Queensland (UQ) have found a powerful way to block two deadly viruses - Hendra and Nipah - for which no approved vaccine or treatment currently exists.
