Please join us for a Frontiers in Microscopy Seminar:
Date/Time: Wednesday, 7 August 2024, 2-3pm (AEST)
Title: Correlative optical, SEM and XFM synchrotron microscopy for automated mineralogical phase maps
Presenters: Dr Marco Acevedo and Prof Balz Kamber (School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, QUT)
Venue: AIBN Building 75, Level 1 Seminar Room
Summary:
We will present a prototype workflow for multi-modal microscope imagery combining optical, back scattered electron, and chemical channels obtained on different instruments. Open-access software solutions will be presented for pixel classification and object identification (segmentation) based on the correlative image stacks. The utility of this method will be demonstrated with examples of phase maps for rocks of very different mineralogy and grain size. We will also discuss our ongoing evaluation of different methods for dimensionality reduction of correlative image stacks containing many chemical channels.
All welcome!
