National Youth Science Forum Micro-Expedition to the CMM labs

16 February 2024

CMM welcomed 16 students from the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF), providing them with firsthand exposure to advanced scientific techniques and allowing them to delve into the fascinating world of microscopy and microscale analysis.

During the visit, the students had the opportunity to interact with leading researchers and scientists at the CMM, such as Dr Joseph Otte, Dr Kathryn Green, Dr Olexandra Marenych and Dr Craig Stoppiello, gaining insights into their groundbreaking work in the fields of microscopy and spectroscopy. The NYSF participants were able to explore the intricate details of a diverse range materials at the microscale and nanoscale  levels such as insects, coins and plants. From biological specimens to materials science, the CMM labs cover a diverse range of research areas, showcasing the interdisciplinary nature of modern scientific exploration.

We are confident that the NYSF visit to the CMM labs at UQ will serve as a catalyst for the participating students, igniting their passion for science and research and inspiring them to consider future careers in various scientific fields. The collaboration between NYSF and CMM exemplifies our commitment to nurturing Australia's scientific talent and fostering innovation in the ever-evolving landscape of science and technology and we hope to see them back as research collaborators in a few years!

Testimonial from the organiser:

Following the conclusion of the 2024 NYSF Year 12 Program in Brisbane, we would like to extend our thanks to you and your team for hosting our students.

The success of this year’s program was due, in no small part, to the wonderful support provided to us by organisations and speakers such as yourself. Our students gained so much from the high calibre and wide-ranging STEM content they experienced and will commence their final year of high school with more valuable information on which they can make future study and career decisions.

We hope to be able to work with you again in the near future. However, if you wish to discuss anything further about the 2024 NYSF Year 12 program or any other NYSF activities, please do not hesitate to contact us via our email address programs@nysf.edu.au.

Thanks,
Chrissie Erickson
