New Surface Analysis Scientist - X-ray Material Science & Spectrometry lab

15 February 2022

CMM is pleased to announce that Craig Stoppiello is the new Surface Analysis Scientist at the X-ray Material Science & Spectrometry lab.

Craig comes from Derbyshire, UK and completed an MSci. in Chemistry at the University of Nottingham (UoN), with his third year spent as an exchange student at UQ. He completed a PhD in nanomaterials chemistry at UoN (2016) studying reactions inside carbon nanotubes and subsequently undertook postdoctoral research investigating the characterisation of electron beam sensitive organic materials (2017-2018). In 2019 he moved to the Nanoscale and Microscale Research Centre, UoN where he managed the XPS facilities as well as provided materials consultancy to commercial clients.

Craig now manages the XPS instrumentation within the CMM with responsibilities for operation and client support of the X-ray facilities, and has expertise in surface analysis, commercial consultancy, sample preparation and correlative nanomaterials characterisation.

Let us give Craig a warm welcome to CMM at UQ and please don't hesitate to contact him for any surface science related projects or his old favourite topic carbon nanotubes as chemical reaction “spaces”.
