The Sunchrom SunCollect instrument can be used to spot MALDI targets for LC-MALDI, to fractionate an LC flow between a MALDI target and a microtitre plate, or spray solutions of matrix/enzyme on to tissue for Mass Spectrometry Imaging (MSI) experiments. The instrument can be used to deliver a variety of different matrix solutions, depending upon the analyte – with several factory methods preloaded. New methods can be easily created and stored. The spray from the Sunchrom SunCollect sprayer can produce very fine crystals, allowing for small pixel size imaging experiments to be performed. Up to 4 slides can be sprayed with matrix solution at one time, with the regions on each slide able to be separately specified. Typically, a slide would be prepared with matrix in under 15 minutes, often much less depending on the size of the area sprayed and number of layers applied.
