New Cryogenic Electron Microscopy Specialist - Structural Biology and Protein Crystallography lab.

28 March 2022

CMM is pleased to announce the Dr Na'ama Koifman is the new Cryogenic Electron Microscopy Specialist at the Structural Biology and Protein Crystallography lab.

Dr. Na’ama Koifman graduated her B.Sc. (summa cum laude) in chemical engineering from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. She then continued to do her M.Sc. in the multidisciplinary program for nanoscience and nanotechnology at the Technion, focusing on the study of non-aqueous complex liquid systems by means of cryogenic-electron microscopy (cryo-TEM and cryo-SEM). During her Ph.D. she continued extending her expertise in soft matter electron microscopy, by studying extracellular vesicles (EVs) and cellular shedding of EVs by means of cryo-EM (SEM and TEM), including development and optimization of specimen preparation methodologies. In 2017 she became the manager of the Technion center for electron microscopy of soft matter (TCEMSM), where she worked hands-on with many researchers (in industry and academia) on a wide range of projects. She has vast experience with cryo-SEM and cryo-TEM of soft matter systems, ranging from complex liquids, polymers, gels, cells, and other biological and synthetic systems. She joined CMM in 2022 to share her expertise, provide service and to research and develop advanced workflows in cryo-EM combining cryo-SEM, cryo-FIB, cryo-CLEM and cryo-tomography.

Let us give Na’ama a warm welcome to CMM at UQ and please don't hesitate to contact her for any soft matter cryo-EM science related projects is it cryoSEM, cryoTEM or any other cryo sample preparation request.
