Researcher biography

Dr Andrii (Andrew) Kostryzhev is an engineer and scientist with extensive experience in microstructure characterisation and chemical analysis on SEM and TEM, alloy chemistry, metal processing technologies, mechanical testing, and analysis of microstructure-properties relationships in metals. He is currently focusing on development of service in chemical analysis and phase characterisation in minerals and metals for geological exploration, mineral processing, metal smelting, alloy development, and waste management. Andrii has got a PhD degree in “Manufacturing engineering” from the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine in 2002 and a PhD degree in “Materials Science” from the University of Birmingham (UK) in 2009. Over his academic and consultancy career in Ukraine, United Kingdom, and Australia he has delivered on numerous University-Industry collaborative R&D projects, produced 1 patent, 5 large industrial reports, and more than 90 research articles and conference publications in Ukrainian and international journals with 60+ co-authors from 7 companies and 14 universities (H-index 25 in April 2025). In addition to R&D activities, Andrii has also prepared and delivered lectures at universities on “Engineering Mechanics” and “Metal alloys”, supervised 4 PhD and several Master and Honours undergraduate students, served as a guest editor in 4 special issues of international journals, and is an editorial board member in the journal Metals (MDPI).
