Karl Byriel is a crystallographer who works with UQ researchers to provide crystallization and protein crystallography training and services. 

Karl has worked in X-ray crystallography since 1989, and believes that scientific discovery is the only way to solve the problems facing the world today.

Karl has co-authored over 110 Scientific Publications in many leading Journals including Inorganic Chemistry, Journal of Biological Chemistry and Structure.

Karl is a trained industrial chemist and has long experience working in a University setting.  He helped to setup the first small molecule X-ray diffractometer in Queensland and has worked as an IT Systems Administrator before moving to Protein Crystallography with IMB in May 2000.

Karl holds a B.App.Sci in Applied Chemistry from QIT.
