The lecture will be an overview of the basic operation of a TEM. It will cover the following topics: an introduction to the electron and its properties, electron-matter interactions, the illumination system including, electron guns, electromagnetic lenses, apertures and lens aberrations, the imaging system, contrast and operator control of the instrument.
The course will consist of a one hour lecture, a two hour group demonstration of the microscope and 3 x 2 hour sessions for individual practice.
