Basic TEM training Course 24 to 27 February 2020

The lecture will be an overview of the basic operation of a TEM.  It will cover the following topics: an introduction to the electron and its properties, electron-matter interactions, the illumination system including, electron guns, electromagnetic lenses, apertures and lens aberrations, the imaging system, contrast and operator control of the instrument.

The course will consist of a one hour lecture, a two hour group demonstration of the microscope and 3 x 2 hour sessions for individual practice.


Monday 24 February. 9am -10am Lecture, 2pm - 4pm Group Demonstrations

Tuesday 25 February. Individual practice sessions 11am - 1pm, 2pm - 4pm

Wednesday 26 February. Individual practice sessions 9am - 11am, 11am - 1pm, 2pm - 4pm

Thursday 27 February. Individual practice sessions 9am - 11am, 11am -1pm , 2pm - 4pm
